Linda Benware has been named head of school for State College of Florida Collegiate School (SCFCS). As head of school, Benware is charged with developing and administering educational programs for the innovative charter school.
Benware is an exemplary public school teacher and administrator. Her extensive career began as a classroom teacher, then advanced to supervisor of gifted programs and principal of large public middle and high schools. She was principal of Tarpon Springs Middle School and St. Petersburg High School and founding principal of St. Petersburg Collegiate High School. Benware earned a master’s degree in educational leadership K-12 from the University of South Florida. She is a member of the Florida Association of School Administrators and the National Association of Secondary Principals.
Benware measures her success by her students’ achievements. During Benware’s tenure at St. Petersburg High School, Newsweek listed the school among “America’s 100 Best High Schools.” St. Petersburg Collegiate High School received and maintained the Florida Department of Education’s “A” rating under her leadership. Benware’s extensive experience and proven record of leading high achieving schools were factors that made her the choice for SCFCS’ head of school.
