English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program

What is EAP?
English for Academic Purposes, or EAP, is a program offered by Florida community colleges for students whose first language is not English and who want to take college-level courses.

What classes are offered?
The EAP program at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota offers courses in Reading, Grammar, Writing, and Speaking/Listening at four levels-beginner through high intermediate.

If I'm not interested in getting a college degree, may I still take EAP classes?
Of course.  Many students, some of whom already have a college degree or are in the workforce, take courses to sharpen their skills.

How long will it take to complete the EAP program?
Completion of the program depends on your placement level and the number of courses you take each semester.

When are classes offered?
Daytime classes are offered at SCF Bradenton and SCF Venice, while evening classes are offered at SCF Bradenton each fall and spring.  Daytime courses are offered at SCF Lakewood Ranch in the summer.

How much does it cost?
Information about SCF Tuition can be found at www.scf.edu/Tuition. Each EAP class is worth three college preparatory hours.

Is financial aid available to cover the cost of EAP courses?
Financial aid is available to qualified students.  More information on eligibility is given at www.scf.edu/FinancialAid.
