Course Evaluation Student FAQ

Q.  Why do I need to complete this evaluation?
SCF is interested in evaluating the effectiveness of its programs and faculty. The Student Evaluation system has been one of the ways to measure. For it to work, students will need to provide input. After the semester grades are turned in, the results will be shared with the faculty by their supervisor.

Q.  Is it mandatory?
No, it is not mandatory but there are several incentives for students to complete the evaluations. Twenty (20) students will win a fee waiver for a spring or summer 3 credit class, and one student will win a fee waiver for 15 credits for spring or summer 2011. The winners will be selected from those who complete evaluations on all the courses for which they are registered.
Q.  Are there locations on each campus for me to do the evaluations?
You can complete the evaluations in several labs on each campus, including the Library and the Academic Resource Center (ARC).

Q.  How will I be notified about the online evaluations?
You will receive an email announcement sent to your SCF email address with information and instructions about the process.

Q.  Why is this part of my class assignment?
Participation is elective unless otherwise specified by your instructor.

Q.  What if I choose not to participate?
While there will be no penalty this term, you would not be eligible through other means to provide information about the course and instructor. Also you would not be eligible to receive the course fee waivers mentioned above.

Q.  Do I need an additional password?
No, students will not need an additional password. They will provide their student ID (G00#) to complete an online evaluation of their registered courses.

Q.  What if I have more than one class to evaluate?
All your courses can be evaluated at one time if you wish, or you can choose to log on several times and evaluated one class at a sitting. (Each class should take about 5 minutes to evaluate).

Q.  Will I log in separately to evaluate my traditional classes and my online classes?
No, the log in process is the same, and you can evaluate all of your classes at one time without having to login separately.

Q.  How can I be sure that my answers are anonymous?

SCF has built the system to be anonymous. The system is patterned after other online evaluations and the instructor will not have any means to determine who submitted what input. There are safeguards in place to ensure anonymity of the person completing the evaluation. Once you submit your answers, there will be no way for others to track who submitted what. The only thing known at that point is that you completed your evaluation. If you complete one on each of your classes, you will be in the drawing for the fee waivers.

Q.  How long will the evaluations be available online?
The evaluation will be available for three weeks. This fall the period will be from 12:01 a.m., November 15 through noon, December 3, 2010.

Q.  What incentives as a student do I have to participate?
The obvious one is that your voice is being heard and you provide the feedback both to the instructor and the supervisor about your impressions of the class and the instructor. Above that, this term if you complete evaluations on all your classes being evaluated, you will be in the drawing for 20 3-credit fee waivers (for a spring or summer class). One student will be chosen to receive a fee waiver for 15 credits.
