May 2011 - December 2011 graduates of the Associate degree Nursing Program achieved a 100% first time pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).  This represents 4 consecutive quarters that SCF nursing students have achieved the 100% passage rate. 

SCF pass rate - 100%           National pass rate for the same quarter – 91.23%             State (Florida) pass rate for the same quarter - 88.03%

January 2012 - Congratulations to the Associate of Science nursing students and the faculty regarding the following results on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses(NCLEX-RN): 

  • July 1 – September 31, 2011: 100% of students passed on their first attempt.
  • October 1 – December 31, 2011: 100% of students passed on their first attempt.  
  • SCF Year to date: 98.62%   National average: 86.99%
  • 145 SCF students took the NCLEX-RN in 2011 within the state of Florida with 143 passing on their first attempt.

January 2012 SCF enrolls the first cohort of students in the on line RN to BSN program.

September 2011 the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program receives approval from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) to offer the program via distance education.

July 2011 May 2011 graduates NCLEX-RN first attempt pass rate - 98.25%

June 2011 the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program receives 5 years of initial accreditation from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).

June 2011 the Associate of Science in Nursing program receives 8 years of continuing accreditation from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).

May 2011 Dr. Bonnie Hesselberg receives the 2011 Vice President's Academic Excellence Award.  This annual award goes to an individual who exemplifies excellence and has made a profound impact on the academic programs at SCF.

November 2010 the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program receives initial candidacy from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).

July 2010 May 2010 graduates NCLEX-RN first attempt pass rate - 98.11%

April 2010  One hundred percent of the six-member 2010 graduating class of the State College of Florida (SCF) Dental Hygiene Program passed the Dental Hygiene National Board Examination. Graduates of SCF’s program have boasted a 100 percent pass rate on the national examination for the past ten years of the program’s existence.

April 2010  December 2009 graduates NCLEX-RN first attempt pass rate for the first quarter of the year - 97.72%

February 2010 May 2009 graduates NCLEX-RN first attempt pass rate – 93.75%

October 2009  Dr. Bonnie Hesselberg, SCF Lakewood Ranch provost and dean of nursing at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF), was recognized by the SCF District Board of Trustees at an October meeting for being named among Great 100 Nurses by the Florida Nurses Association (FNA). Hesselberg was honored for her excellence in nursing practice at the 2009 FNA Great 100 Nurses Centennial Celebration held in September in St. Petersburg Beach. She was nominated by her peers who described her as "a respected and admired leader in nursing education" with key strengths including "dedication, innovation and community involvement."

October 2009  The entire 2009 State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota radiography class passed the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists examination on the first attempt. SCF graduates have excelled on the exam with 100 percent passing in 18 years. This year marked the first time in SCF's history that one student ranked in the 100th percentile nationally. Three students also ranked in the 96th percentile.

July 2009 the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) approved SCF for the granting of baccalaureate level degrees.

Fall 2008  Nursing Professors Ruth Anderson and Susan Donaldson have earned the designation of Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) after successfully completing a rigorous examination developed and administered by the National League for Nursing (NLN).  The NLN started the CNE program in 2005 to distinguish academic nursing education as a speciality area of practice and recognize nurse educators' specialized knowledge, skills and excellence in practice.  With nearly half of nurses projected to retire within the next decade, quality nursing education is vital to the country and the region.

February 2008 Debra Chasanoff, Director of the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Program, has been awarded a Leadership Fellowship from the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and the American Occupational Therapy Foundation (AOTF).

2007-08 with a $263, 699 grant, SCF's nursing program will increase baseline nursing student enrollments by 18 as well as enhance successful program completion and licensure via appropriate personnel, assessment, mentoring, supplies, and equipment.  Personnel will include a learning specialist for a retention initiative, a manager for the human patient simulator laboratory, and supplemental pay for the development and piloting of a new mentoring program for at-risk students.  Grant funds will be used to acquire an adult human patient simulator and two birthing simulators.  The project's budget will also support the purchase of a teacher workstation for one of the nursing classrooms.

2005-06 the Foundation received a check for $925,000 from the Venice Hospital Foundation Endowment. This check is in addition to the $2.5 million they contributed last February. This second gift is designated to the endowed Health Science Faculty/Staff Position for SCF Venice. These two gifts total $3.4 million and when matched by the State of Florida the total for our 2 endowed chairs is $5.7 million!

This generosity helps SCF expand its nursing program at SCF Venice by permitting the enrollment of additional nursing majors with the hiring of new nursing faculty.
