Celebrate the Holidays with Music at SCF

(Bradenton, Fla., November 24, 2009) – State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) fine and performing arts department will feature two works of the holiday season at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 8, in Neel Performing Arts Center at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th Street West. 

"A Feast of Carols,” an arrangement of six well-known Christmas songs, begins with “Gloucestershire Holiday Wassail,” which celebrates the custom of going house-to-house seeking festivities. Other songs in the arrangement include “He is Born,” “Veni Emmanuel,” “The Holly and the Ivy,” “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
 
“A Musicological Journey Through the Twelve Days of Christmas,” by Craig Courtney, is a humorous recasting of the famous counting carol that includes styles and genres of historical periods in music from the Gregorian chant to the early 20th century with masterpieces by Bach, Mozart, Massenet, Wagner, Giordano, Sousa and other well-known composers.
 
The Holiday Concert will feature the SCF Chamber and Concert Choirs, directed by Melodie Dickerson; Classical Guitar Ensemble, directed by Rex Willis; and College Orchestra, directed by Robyn Wilkes.
