Studio 84 Presents a Fresh Take on "A Christmas Carol"

Last Weekend for Performance

(Bradenton, Fla., Dec. 7, 2009) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Studio 84 Productions will present an adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” set in a hurricane shelter. The production will be held at 8 p.m., Friday – Saturday, Dec. 4-5, Monday, Dec. 7, and Thursday – Saturday, Dec. 10-12, in the David S. & Anne W. Howard Studio Theatre, located in building 11 West at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. West. A matinee performance is scheduled at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 6.

Written by Jack Babb, artistic director of International Theatre Vienna and Dean Anthony, SCF fine and performing arts instructor, the play surrounds the main character, Mr. Collins, who seeks refuge from the storm in a shelter filled with people he fired just weeks before Christmas. His plan to hide from them goes awry when two dozen disgruntled former employees discover him. Instead of seeking revenge, the townspeople give Mr. Collins an opportunity for redemption as they begin reading and performing “A Christmas Carol.”
