SCF Fine Art Gallery Presents Jerry N. Uelsmann and Maggie Taylor: Surreal Reality

(Bradenton, Fla., Dec. 17 , 2009) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Fine Art Gallery will display work by visionary photographers Jerry N. Ueslmann and Maggie Taylor at an opening reception at 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 29, at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. West, building 11 North. The reception is free and open to the public.

The exhibit, “Jerry N. Uelsmann and Maggie Taylor: Surreal Reality,” features innovative photography developed in both a traditional darkroom and by modern digital processing.

Uelsmann’s photographs feature allegorical, surreal images made with multiple negatives. His photographs, exhibited throughout the United States and abroad, are permanent collections at many museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York; Victoria and Albert Museum in London; the Biblio-theque National in Paris; the National Gallery of Australia; the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography and The Museum of Photography in Seoul, Korea.

Uslesmann is a fellow of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain and a founding member of The Society of Photographic Education. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Rochester Institute of Technology and a Master of Science and Master of Fine Arts at Indiana University.

Taylor is known for her contemporary digital images that are scanned, layered and technically manipulated. Her most recent works are illustrations for Lewis Carroll’s classic, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.” Previous work is featured in books, “Adobe Photoshop Master Class: Maggie Taylor’s Landscape of Dreams” and “Solutions Beginning with A.”

Her images have been exhibited throughout the U.S. and abroad, including The Art Museum at Princeton University; The Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University; the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art in Gainesville and The Museum of Photography in Seoul, Korea. Taylor received her Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Yale University and Master of Fine Arts in Photography from the University of Florida.

Uelsmann and Taylor will attend the reception to meet with guests and sign copies of their latest books available to purchase.
