SCF to Offer Free Technology-based Manufacturing Program
(Bradenton, Fla., Feb.11, 2010) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF), in partnership with Hillsborough Community College and Banner Center for Manufacturing, is offering a free nine-week manufacturing program held 5:30-9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 23-April 29, at SCF Lakewood Ranch, 7131 Professional Parkway East, Sarasota.
Funded by a grant from the federal Department of Labor, the technology-based program uses virtual classroom instruction and eLearning tools to train participants for the manufacturing industry.
The program includes the following 72 contact-hour courses:
• Workforce Essentials
• Safety Awareness
• Production and Processes
• Maintenance Awareness
• Quality Assurance
Participants will earn Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) Certified Production Technician (CPT) Certification upon successful completion of unit exams. The MSSC CPT certification can articulate to 15 credits toward an Associate in Science degree in engineering technology at SCF. In addition, participants will receive the Occupational Safety and Health Administration 10-hour Safety Training Certificate. Participants must be computer literate.
