SCF Venice Math Olympics Team Ranked First in Division at Statewide Competition
(Bradenton, Fla., April 21, 2010) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Venice Math Olympics team was recognized by the SCF District Board of Trustees at the April meeting for placing first in the small college division in a statewide competition held in April at the University of North Florida, Jacksonville.
Since 2000, SCF’s Math Olympics team has won first place for eight years. Students participate in team and individual competitions covering all math courses including Calculus II.
The day-long competition was co-sponsored by UNF and the Florida Two-Year College Mathematics Association.
Members are Joe Comer, Cameron Lutz, Andrew Moffatt, Michael Parker. The team coach is Mary Beth Headlee, assistant professor, mathematics. Corliss Bretz, instructional assistant, Academic Resource Center, also advised the students during the competition.
