SCF to Offer New Green Building Courses
(Bradenton, Fla., May 12, 2010) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF), in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and Solar Source Institute, will offer new green building courses this summer at SCF Lakewood Ranch, 7131 Professional Parkway E., Sarasota.
An introductory course, Green Building Basics and LEED, will be offered at 1 p.m. – 5 p.m., Friday, June 11. The course covers the fundamentals of the LEED Rating System and an introduction to the USGBC and green building principles. Topics include climate change and building impacts, benefits of green buildings, and conventional and integrative approaches to building design, construction and operations. The fee is $175 for USGBC members or $210 for nonmembers by June 3.
Core Concepts and Strategies will be held at 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., Saturday, June 12, for those seeking an additional training in the LEED Rating System and sustainable building concepts. The fee is $325 for USGBC members or $390 for nonmembers by June 3.
Completion of both courses qualifies participants to sit for the Green Associate Certification exam.
In July, SCF will partner with Solar Source Inc. to offer Intro to Thermal System held 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Wednesday, July 19-21. The fee is $750. In addition, SCF will offer Introduction to PV Systems, a five-day course for those preparing to sit for the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners exam. The course will be held at 9 a.m.- 5p.m., Monday-Friday, July 19-23. The fee is $1,250.
All courses are designed for service providers, contractors, real estate professionals, design professionals, product manufactures, tenants, building owners, government officials and educators.
