SCF Softball Team Recognized by SCF District Board of Trustees

(Bradenton, Fla., May 19, 2010) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Manatees softball team was recognized by the SCF District Board of Trustees for winning the Suncoast Conference Championship and placing second in the FCCAA/NJCCAA Gulf District State Tournament.

Four SCF softball players were named to the FCCAA 2010 All-Gulf District Tournament Team including Kayla Gabel, Kayla Ellingsen, Kelsey Maffucci and Latece Luther.

Gabel, an SCF graduate, also was named to the 2010 FCCAA All-Tournament Team and Suncoast Conference Second-Team. She earned a softball scholarship to Florida Gulf Coast University.

Ellingsen, a Venice resident, was named the 2010 SCF Softball Most Valuable Player and 2010 Suncoast Conference All-Conference First-Team. An SCF graduate, Ellingsen plans to attend a four-year university on a softball scholarship this fall.

Maffucci, a returning left field starter, earned a spot on the 2010 Suncoast All-Conference First-Team.

Luther, SCF’s starting catcher, plans to graduate from SCF this summer. Her honors also include 2010 FCCAA All Tournament Team, 2010 Suncoast All-Conference First-Team, 2009 All-State First-Team and 2009 Suncoast All-Conference First-Team.

Other individual honors include: Stephanie Shoup, center field, Suncoast All-Conference Second-Team and Randi Grimes, team captain, 2010 Suncoast Conference First-Team. After graduating from SCF this summer, Grimes will attend Florida Southern College in Lakeland on a softball scholarship this fall.
