Board Report: Charter School Contract and SCF Strategic Plan Approved

(Bradenton, Fla., May 25, 2010) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) District Board of Trustees at a special meeting on Tuesday, May 25, approved the State College of Florida Collegiate School (SCFCS) contract and construction proposal for renovation of the building located at SCF Bradenton.

The charter school contract was approved by the Manatee County School District Board on Monday, May 24. The SCF board learned that 132 students in sixth and seventh grades, the maximum, are now enrolled in SCFCS, and a growing number of additional students have shown interest in attending. Sixty-four percent of the enrolled students are first-generation-in-college students whose parents do not have a bachelor’s degree. Classes will start in August.

The board also approved SCF’s strategic plan, a new mission, vision statement and institutional values, to be implemented at the College in the next five years.
