SCF Manatees Baseball Pitcher Drafted by Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals
(Bradenton, Fla., June 8, 2010) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Baseball player Alex Burgos was drafted in the fifth round by the Detroit Tigers on June 8.
Burgos, a decorated pitcher, earned many accolades in the 2010 season including FCCAA All-Tournament Most Outstanding Pitcher and FCCAA All-State First-Team Pitcher; FCCAA All-Tournament Team; Suncoast Conference First-Team Pitcher; and Suncoast Conference Pitcher of the Year. Burgos finished the season with a record of 13-2 with a 1.42 earned run average.
He also was named to the NJCAA All-America team as honorable mention and selected to play on the NJCAA All-Star Baseball Team to represent the USA at the 25th Honkbal Tournament in the Netherlands on July 9-18.
SCF pitcher Josh Lucas was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 21st round on June 8. It was his second consecutive year of being drafted after being selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 39th round in 2009. His record this season was 5-5 with a 4.26 earned run average. Austin Chubb, SCF’s catcher, was named to the 2010 JUCO World Series All-Tournament Team as a designated hitter. He also was named to the FCCAA All-Tournament Team and Suncoast All-Conference First-Team Catcher.
