New Medical Technology & Simulation Center Opens

(Bradenton, Fla., August 24, 2010) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) celebrated the opening of the new Medical Technology & Simulation Center on Friday, Aug. 20, at SCF Lakewood Ranch, 7131 Professional Parkway East.

The new 42,000-square-foot center, which opened in time for Fall 2010 classes, houses nursing, other health professions, education and SCF’s future Energy Technology Management Program.

Nursing students can practice clinical skills in the MTSC’s controlled risk-free simulated hospital environment, featuring sophisticated adult and infant simulation technology in intensive care units; a birthing room; nursing assessment lab; and science laboratories and classrooms.

A 1,600-square-foot chiller plant, which uses a Thermal Energy Storage system to provide air conditioning for the campus during peak times to conserve energy, is designed to help SCF reduce annual energy costs by 28 percent. The chiller plant will serve as a learning lab for students in the future Energy Technology Management Program.
