"Chopin" Piano Concert Presented by SCF Music Faculty Valentine

(Bradenton, Fla., September 3, 2010) — Joyce Valentine, State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) music instructor, will present a piano concert commemorating the 200th birthday of piano composer Frederic Chopin at 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 6, in the Neel Performing Arts Center at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. West.

The concert offers a rare glimpse of the private life of Chopin through narration by local radio talk show host and actor Cliff Roles and accompaniment by guest artists Melodie Dickerson, soprano; Martha Lopez, coloratura soprano; Carol Sparrow, mezzo soprano; and Sasha von Dassow, cello. The concert also will include some of Chopin's most beloved and lesser known works for piano, voice and cello.

Valentine has released two recordings including "Reunion" and "A Valentine Christmas."

In 1983, she debuted in Carnegie Recital Hall. The New York Times called her performance of Ginastera's Sonata No.1 "brisk, centered, propulsive and altogether thrilling." She also has performed as a soloist with the Kansas City Philharmonic, the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and the New Haven Symphony Orchestra.

Valentine has a bachelor's degree from the Julliard School of Music and a master's degree from University of Missouri Conservatory of Music.

General admission is $8. Tickets are $4 for students and SCF staff. For more information, contact the SCF music department at 941-752-5351 or Neel Performing Arts Center Box Office at 941-752-5252. Maps and directions are online at
