SCF Team is No. 1 at Heart Walk

State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) claimed the No. 1 position in the team category at the 2010 Heart Walk held at Sarasota's Payne Park on Saturday, September 25.

By the start of the walk, 183 SCF students, employees and supporters had shown up wearing blue SCF shirts, and contributions topped $6,440, earning the College second place for the highest number of walkers and third place in the category of top companies.

President Dr. Lars A. Hafner served as volunteer chair of this year's Heart Walk and many College employees and students helped to boost SCF's presence including Manatees Softball Head Coach Meredith Headings, who was the fourth highest individual fundraiser. SCF's Dr. Susan Sheffield and Jean Waddell also were recognized during opening ceremonies for making significant healthy lifestyle changes by losing 50 pounds each in the past year.

SCF students participating included the Softball and Baseball teams and student-athletes and coaches from Basketball, Volleyball and Tennis teams, as well as representatives from the Student Government Association and numerous College clubs.

The Corporate and Community Development Division staffed a water station booth halfway around the park and distributed SCF-labeled water bottles. The SCF Foundation provided shirts for the College team and Human Resources staff members coordinated Heart Walk activities.
