"Into The Woods" Presented by SCF Music Theatre Ensemble

(Bradenton, Fla., October 12, 2010) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Music Theatre Ensemble will present a musical comedy, "Into The Woods," at 8 p.m., Friday – Saturday, Oct. 29 and Oct. 30, and 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 31, in Neel Performing Arts Center, SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th Street West.

"Into The Woods," an internationally acclaimed musical written by Stephen Sondheim, intertwines well-known fairytale characters including Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Little Red Riding Hood with the story of the Baker and his wife who attempt to reverse the curse of a mischievous witch to have a child. The original Broadway production, directed by James Lapine, won three Tony Awards including Best Book and Best Score.

Featured performers in SCF’s production of “Into The Woods” include SCF students Alicia Bazo, Jessica Buccigrossi, Karli Cole, Ashley Cronkhite, Samone Hicks, Regan Hooper, Whitney Johnson, Marina Kaminskiy, Erin Weinberger, Ashley George, Alicia Lutes, Jeff Beghtel, Adam King, Matt Mayo, Max Shishkin, Derek Wallace, Ashley Neimiller, Brooke Naley, Michael Walton, Courtney Fults and Marco Mazzoni.

Other performers include Dr. Jack Crocker, SCF vice president of quality and success, and State College of Florida Collegiate School students Mia Brown, Maksim Chernyy, Fedjine Constant, Nina Jones, Rachelle Kerkof, Lauren Kerns, Shalynn Padgett, Diana Teresa Pimental, Jocelyn Riley and Riley VanOrsdol.

Directed by Melodie Dickerson, SCF director of choral and vocal studies, the play highlights the talents of Jim Thaggard, assistant director and SCF Box Office manager; Rex Willis, music director and SCF guitar and music and theory instructor; Kelly Burnette, SCF dance instructor and choreographer; and Lurray Myers, SCF staff accompanist. Jan Van Wart, SCF theatre instructor, designed the set and lighting for the musical. The musical is accompanied by an orchestra comprised of SCF music students and directed by Willis.
