Allen Inducted into SCF Bradenton Honor Society

(Bradenton, Fla., October 22, 2010) – State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) District Board of Trustees Chair Ron Allen was inducted as an honorary member of the Nu Zeta Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society at SCF Bradenton on Thursday, Oct. 21.

“It’s a privilege to be inducted as a member of Phi Theta Kappa. I’m honored to serve as SCF’s board chair and am committed to providing improved opportunities for students at SCF,” Allen said.

Allen, of Bradenton, who was appointed to the college board by Gov. Jeb Bush in May 1999, served as vice chairman before his recent election as chair. In 2008, he was selected by his fellow trustees to chair the SCF Presidential Search Committee. Allen is president of NDC Construction Company in Bradenton.

“As a strong supporter of student organizations, Ron is well deserving of this recognition as an honorary member of PTK, which is an organization that provides students an opportunity to succeed in college and in life,” said SCF President Lars A. Hafner.

Special guests at SCF Bradenton’s Nu Zeta induction included John Paul, Nu Zeta adviser; Dr. Jack Crocker, vice president of academic quality and success; Dr. Mike Mears, vice president of baccalaureate degree programs and SCF Bradenton provost; Dr. Bonnie Hesselberg, SCF Lakewood Ranch provost; Darlene Wedler-Johnson, SCF Venice Provost.

Nu Zeta officers who participated in the ceremony were Laura Shade, president; Jeremiah Smith, executive vice president; Paul Cajka, vice president of scholarship; Willie Braswell, vice president of leadership; Mileydis Arias, vice president of service; Chloe-Ann Marshman, vice president of fellowship. Student speakers included Smith and Alyxandra Hesser as presenters of the PTK symbols and Braswell, Cajka, Arias, and Marshman as honorees for upholding hallmarks of PTK standards.

The honor society inducted 62 new members. Members must have a 3.5 or higher grade point average (GPA) at induction and maintain a 3.25 GPA.
