SCF Magazine & Staff Excel in State Competition
(Bradenton, Fla., November 9, 2010) – State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Pentangle humanities magazine won second place for general excellence at the Florida Community College Press Association conference held in October. Pentangle staff and individuals won three additional first-place awards, three second-place awards and three third-place awards.
Individual winners are Alex Schultz, first place, best cover; John Maurer, first place, best individual artwork; Amanda Jansoon, first place, best photo; Pearl Vega, third place, best fiction; and Patricia “Nikki” Ummel, third place, best poem.
Ella Hillebrand and Rachel Stancavage were second place winners of best illustration with text- magazine and best photography. Hillebrand also won second place for best illustration with text-individual and the Inner Circle Award for winning awards in three or more categories.
The Pentangle staff also won third place for best contents page.
Additional Pentangle staff members are Sarah Poser, Bethany Heitzenrater, Gabby Keusch, Lee Towle, Alex Schultz, Clay Hansinger, Edward Walmsley, Michael Junker and Matt McCarthy.
Faculty advisors are Courtney Ruffner, associate professor, language and literature and Jeff Grieneisen, assistant professor, language and literature.
