2011 Renewable Energy Tour to Stop at SCF Lakewood Ranch
(Bradenton, Fla., February 11, 2011) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Corporate and Community Development will host a town hall event as a part of the 2011 Florida Renewable Energy Tour at 5 – 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 18, at the Center for Innovation and Technology at SCF Lakewood Ranch, 7131 Professional Pkwy. East, Sarasota. A tour of the Medical Technology & Simulation Center (MTSC) and chiller plant will be held from 4-4:30 p.m. prior to the town hall event.
At the event, local and state legislators, renewable energy advocates and green industry experts will discuss advancing renewable energy in Florida.
Committed to sustainability and green practices, the College is proud to host the event at SCF Lakewood Ranch, home both to the 30,000-square-foot Center for Innovation and Technology and the new 42,000-square-foot MTSC, SCF’s first building designed to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification. A new 1,600-square-foot chiller plant that uses a Thermal Energy Storage system to provide air conditioning for the entire campus will serve as a hands-on learning lab for SCF’s future Energy Technology Management Program.
Sponsored by the Florida Alliance for Renewable Energy (FARE), the tour will travel throughout Florida, visiting 10 cities in February, leading up to the early March legislative session. The tour focuses on renewable energy policy, and discussion will include local job creation, manufacturing and export, and economic resurgence.
