SCF Choirs to Perform March 1
(Bradenton, Fla., February 17, 2011) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Choirs will present a concert highlighting choral music based on dance idioms at 8 p.m., March 1, in Neel Performing Arts Center at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. West.
The Concert Choir will perform Johannes Brahms’ “Liebeslieder Walzer, Opus 52” which includes excerpts from “Polydora, ein weltpoetisches Liederbuch” written in 1855 by German poet and philosopher Georg Friederich Daumer.
The work is performed as a four-part vocal arrangement with four-hand piano accompaniment by Lurray Myers, SCF staff accompanist, and Dr. Charles Turon, SCF coordinator of keyboard studies. Also featured in this presentation will be dancers from the Manatee School of the Arts performing under the direction of Jonah Wright.
The Chamber Choir will perform two delightful works from the Renaissance period including “Faire Phyllis” by John Farmer and “In These Delightful Pleasant Groves” by Henry Purcell as well as a modern piece “Country Dances” by the Swingle Singers.
Also performing will be Karli Cole and Whitney Johnson, who recently sang at the Florida Community College Music Symposium at Florida Atlantic University.
