SCF Student Awarded $1,500 Coca-Cola Scholarship
(Bradenton, Fla., April 11, 2011) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) student Jodi Johnson received a $1,500 scholarship and special medallion for being named a Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Gold Scholar by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation.
Johnson, a North Port resident, was one of 50 college students nationwide to be recognized as a Gold Scholar. Her name was listed with all Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Scholars in the April 11 issue of USA TODAY.
Only two students from each college can be nominated for the award, and recipients are selected by a panel of judges who consider academic rigor, grade point average, academic and leadership awards and engagement in college and community service projects.
At SCF, Johnson serves as president of the Alpha Mu Upsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. As an active member of PTK, Johnson has organized scholarship workshops, participated in service projects and hosted PTK events. She was recently named to the PTK All-Florida Academic Team.
Johnson is also a member of the Student Activity Budget Review Committee and SCF Green Team, a student organization that promotes sustainability by participating in SCF and community service projects including beach clean-ups and recycling efforts . She is cofounder of the Awareness Initiative Program at SCF Venice designed to raise awareness about drug and alcohol dependence and support affected families.
After graduating with her Associate in Arts degree from SCF this May, Jodi plans to attend New College of Florida to study anthropology starting this fall.
