SCF’s First Model UN Team Recognized by Board of Trustees
(Bradenton, Fla., April 20, 2011) - State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota’s first (SCF) Model United Nations team received Honorable Mention and Best Position Paper in the 2010 Southern Regional Model United Nations Conference held in Atlanta.
SCF students were among only eight of 70 delegations to be recognized for their position papers, which stated their assigned country's viewpoints and policies on specific issues. Topics included “Piracy in the Indian Ocean, “Bridging the Digital Divide,” “Small Arms Control” and “Food Safety.”
At the conference, SCF students represented the Republic of Austria, participating as delegates at the conference by drafting and sponsoring resolutions before their respective committees.
Three delegates¬ — Matthew Corkery, Lori Dann and Robin Readle — ¬received individual Outstanding Delegate awards, which were granted to only three percent of those who participated in the conference.
Additional SCF team members included Paul Cajke, Nadia Kashitskaya and Chloe-Ann Marshman.
Danny Fuerstman, SCF social and behavior sciences instructor, is the delegation’s adviser.
SCF competed with teams from community and state colleges and universities throughout the United States.
