SCF SBDC Offers Summer Classes for Entrepreneurs

(Bradenton, Fla., April 29, 2011) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Small Business Development Center (SBDC) offers entrepreneur courses for individuals who want to start, grow and succeed in their business. Most classes are brief, inexpensive and presented by experts in their field.

If you are considering starting your own business, the “Business Basics” class covers important topics such as the importance of a business plan, legal structures, taxes, insurance and more. The class will be held from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m., Thursday, May 26, at SCF Lakewood Ranch. The cost is $20.

Other classes helpful for local entrepreneurs include the following classes held at SCF Lakewood Ranch:

• “Chart of Accounts,” 9 -11 a.m., May 23, $25

• “Quickbooks,” 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., May 26 and May 31, $285

A series of free luncheon programs, in partnership with the City of North Port, will be held for entrepreneurs from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at North Port City Hall, 4970 City Hall Blvd., North Port. Topics range from effectively using social media for your business to media relations and payroll systems.

• July 13, “Payroll and Other Boring Stuff”

• October 12, “Taking Your Business to the Next Level”

• Nov. 9, “Does Your ‘Net’ Work?”
