SCF to Offer New Programs at SCF Venice
(Bradenton, Fla., August 1, 2011) – New and prospective students at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) now have more career opportunities through two degree programs, the Associate in Science in Engineering Technology and Associate in Science in Construction Management, offered at SCF Venice beginning this fall.
Housed in a state-of-the-art laboratory at SCF Venice, the programs, which give students hands-on experience with cutting-edge equipment and technology, are designed with an emphasis on sustainability and alternative energy.
In the engineering technology program, students learn mechanics, electronics, pneumatics and hydraulics on equipment used by technicians and engineers in the modern workforce. Aligned with the nationwide Manufacturing Skills Standards Council, the A.S. in Engineering Technology Program connects the pipeline of manufacturing education from the certification to the bachelor’s degree.
Students entering the program can build their credentials in the field by taking the core courses to earn their Production Technician Certification and completing the A.S. in Engineering Technology Program to qualify for positions as manufacturing production technicians, solar energy system designers, CAD designers and electronics engineering technicians. Graduates of the program also may advance their education at SCF by applying to the new Bachelor of Applied Science in Energy Technology Management program.
The Construction Management Technology Program, which trains students in energy efficient building construction and solar energy systems, prepares them to sit for the Florida General Contractors license. Students graduating from the program are qualified to become energy auditors, construction managers, architectural and civil drafters.
Typical starting salaries for graduates of the programs range between $35, 000 – $42, 000.
