Fine Art Gallery Features "Redhanded: A Songe Forre the Loste"
(Bradenton, Fla., August 31, 2011) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will display work by artist Kore Loy Wildrekinde-McWhirter in an opening reception from 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, in the Fine Art Gallery at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. West, building 11 North. Wildrekinde-McWhirter will present a gallery discussion from 5- 6 p.m. prior to the reception.
The exhibit, “redhanded: a songe forre the loste,” is a series of 13 prints and poems that depict violence against children and recount Wildrekinde-McWhirter’s experiences living as a child in a cult in Paraguay. Her work gives a voice to children who live in violent conditions throughout the world.
As a printmaker for more than 30 years, Wildrekinde-McWhirter has shown her work in selected group and juried exhibitions, including Women’s International Print Portfolio Birth Project and the Southern Graphics International Print Conference in Kansas City and St. Louis. She also served as a guest artist at the Ringling College Wildacres Art Workshop in North Carolina and participated in “Black Flag on the Moon” portfolio exchange and exhibition at the SCF Fine Art Gallery in 2009.

• A demonstration of Wildrekinde-McWhirter’s etching techniques on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 4 – 7 p.m., at the Art & Design Building, room 207
• A discussion led by Wildrekinde-McWhirter on Wednesday, Sept. 14, from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. in the Fine Art Gallery, building 11 North.
