Business Owners to Share Tips at SBDC Seminar Jan. 25 

(Bradenton, Fla., January 19, 2012)— The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will sponsor a seminar, “Growth in a Shrinking Economy,” featuring local business owners who have survived and thrived during some of the toughest business conditions in decades at 7:30 – 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 25, at SCF Lakewood Ranch, 7131 Professional Pkwy. E., Sarasota.

The SBDC, a partnership of the Small Business Administration, SCF and the University of South Florida, has assisted 1,888 local small business owners, and is responsible for over $2 million of capital infusion.

“We have incredible success stories in our community,” said Carolyn Griffin, director of SBDC at SCF. “Our panelists, representing retail, manufacturing, healthcare and other business sectors, will share their stories and offer practical tips for other small business owners.”

Moderated by Rich Odato, president of Odato Marketing Group, and sponsored in part by SRQ Media Group, the event will feature the following speakers:

Nancy Krohngold, owner of Nancy’s Bar-B-Q, used social media to build a customer base for her slow-smoked pulled pork, partnering with some of the region’s most successful restaurateurs to open Nancy’s Bar-B-Q.

Robert Finkelstein, D.O., Center for Skin Wellness, expanded his medical and cosmetic dermatology practice in Lakewood Ranch, adding laser hair removal, a VIP program and several new products.

Karl Nelson, owner of Greenleaf Wisconsin Cheese Shop, expressed pride in his home state and its signature product by opening a specialty cheese shop.

Kevin Connelly, president of Apollo Sunguard, has established a new product line for his shade structure manufacturing company.

Sue Ellen Addicott, owner of Senior Moves, is a former Washington conference director who opened a business helping seniors and their families with moving and life transitions.
