SCF Hosts Sarasota Film Festival

(Bradenton, Fla., March 21, 2012) — State College of Florida, Manatee – Sarasota (SCF) will host several film screenings for the 14th Annual Sarasota Film Festival (SFF) at Neel Performing Arts Center at SCF Bradenton, 5480 26th St. West.

The SFF Manatee Kick Off Party, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 5:30-7 p.m., Thursday, March 29, at Tarpon Pointe Grill & Tiki Bar, 801 Riverside Drive E., Bradenton. The public is invited to learn more about the festival and purchase tickets to all films and events while enjoying appetizers and giveaways.

SFF events will be held on the following dates:

  • Friday, April 20, 5:30 p.m., a panel discussion "Women In Film: Fostering Collaboration and Creativity," moderated by SCF speech instructor Jennifer Quick, and 7:30 p.m., "I am a Good Person/I am a Bad Person," the second solo feature by director Ingrid Veninger
  • Saturday, April 21, 1 p.m., “Otter 501,” 3:30 p.m., “How I Became an Elephant,” and 7 p.m., “Chasing Ice”
  • Sunday, April 22, 2 p.m., "Your Sister's Sister," directed by Lynn Shelton, starring Emily Blunt and Mark Duplass.

As the oldest and largest public college on Florida’s “Cultural Coast,” SCF has a long-standing commitment to arts education and performance.

“Hosting the Sarasota Film Festival is a continuation of our participation in cultural events in the area. Since the inception of the Sarasota Festival Film Festival, SCF students and faculty members have been involved as volunteers, panelists, speakers and advisors. This new effort represents an expanded outreach to the public,” said Del Jacobs, SCF Film Program director.

Individual film tickets are $12. Tickets are $ 8 for students who present a student identification card. Children under 12 are free.

Tickets will be available at the Neel Performing Arts Center box office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from noon – 2 p.m. from Tuesday, March 27 - Wednesday, April 18, and at the events from April 20 – 22.
