SCF Recognizes Faculty and Staff Accomplishments

(Bradenton, Fla., May 9, 2012) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) recognizes faculty and staff accomplishments.

  • Dr. Beth Kersten, natural sciences professor, was selected as coauthor of the sixth edition of “Anatomy & Physiology with Integrated Study Guide” published by McGraw Hill. As one of top selling non-major human biology textbooks in the U.S., the book is used in SCF’s course, Human Body. Kersten has begun working with other authors to evaluate the fifth edition, analyze instructor reviews and plan changes for the upcoming sixth edition.

  • Dr. Matthew Keirle, SCF natural science assistant professor, published “Investigating the Allelic Evolution of an Imperfect Microsatellite Locus in the Hawaiian Mushroom Rhodocollybia laulaha,” in Journal of Heredity, a leading international peer-reviewed research publication by Oxford University Press.

  • Del Jacobs, SCF film production technology professor and program director and author ofInterrogating the Image: Movies and the World of Film and Television,” was chosen as the keynote speaker to present "The Aggregate Listener-Spectator: 125 Years of Recorded Sounds and Images" at the Louisiana Conference on "Media, Technology and the Imagination" held the University of Louisiana at Lafayette this spring.

  • Peter Gedeon, SCF fine and performing arts lab assistant, was selected for the International Federation of Photographic Art sponsored 1st Budapest International Digital Photo Contest’s showcase.  Gedeon’s “Misgivings I” photo won Honorable Mention. His work was one of only 27 to be selected from 5,000 pictures sent by photographic artists from around the world to receive the prestigious award.
