SCF Teams and Student-Athletes Score Academic Honors
(Bradenton, Fla., June 28, 2012) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) athletic teams, coaches and student-athletes were recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) for their academic achievements in 2011-2012.
SCF Manatees women’s volleyball, women’s tennis and men’s baseball teams were named 2011-2012 NJCAA All-Academic Teams. SCF teams exceeded the minimum team grade point average of 3.0 required for the honor: volleyball, 3.28 GPA; tennis 3.36 GPA; and baseball 3.07 GPA.
Five student-athletes were named NJCAA Athletes of Distinction and honored with awards based on their GPAs. SCF Volleyball player Sarah Geraldson earned a 4.0 GPA during her two years at SCF, winning the Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence, and SCF Softball player Chelsea Oglevie earned the Superior Academic Achievement award with a 3.9 GPA. SCF athletes who won Exemplary Academic Achievement awards were: Tyler Rocklein, baseball, 3.67 GPA; Jeff Dally, baseball, 3.7 GPA; and Tori Overmyer, volleyball, 3.63 GPA.
NJCAA is the second largest national intercollegiate athletic organization in the United States with more than 500 member schools in 43 states. Each year more than 60,000 student-athletes compete in one of 28 different sports and the organization sponsors 48 national championship events.
