Recipient of 2012 NJCAA Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence
(Bradenton, Fla., August 16, 2012) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Manatees Volleyball player Sarah Geraldson was the only female student-athlete in the state to be named the 2011-2012 Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA).
Geraldson was selected for the award based on her athletic and academic achievements and service to the community. She qualified for the award after winning the Roberta Stokes Scholar-Athlete Award this spring.
Geraldson, who graduated from SCF in May, was an All-Conference player with a 4.0 GPA during her career at SCF. She also participated in fundraisers to support the SCF Manatees, South Florida Museum, American Heart Association, Arthritis Foundation and Boys & Girls Club.
She also was the recipient of the 2012 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence for maintaining a 4.0 GPA for at least 45 credit hours. Geraldson was one of 168 student-athletes out of 60,000 from all two-year colleges in NJCAA Divisions I-III to win the award.
She was presented with the FSCAA award by SCF Athletic Director Matthew Ennis at the start of the 2012 volleyball season.
Geraldson thanked Ennis and SCF Volleyball Coach Carmine Garofalo for their support while she was a student-athlete at SCF.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to win this award,” she said. “It is such a blessing to have people who care about you that much and believe that you can achieve such a high honor.”
