SCF Commemorates 9/11 with “Celebration of Peace”

(Bradenton, Fla., September 9, 2012) – In commemoration of 9/11, State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Bradenton Veteran’s Collegiate Association and SCF Venice Veterans Exchange, in collaboration with Campus Ministry, will present a “Celebration of Peace” on Tuesday, September 11. The event is free and open to the public.

The service at SCF Bradenton will begin at 8:46 a.m. at the Campus Ministry building. Following a brief reading and prayer, there will be a procession to the flagpole at the 26th Street entrance for a presentation of colors and moment of silence. Accompanied by community service representatives, SCF Veteran’s Collegiate Association President Jason Collins will provide a statement of appreciation for 9/11 first responders and veterans for their service to the United States.

The service at SCF Venice will begin at 10:50 a.m. at the main flagpole at the entrance of the campus. Roger Mussone, trades worker for SCF Venice facilities and retired New York City firefighter, will raise the flag. He will be accompanied by Venice security officers Michael Murphy and Sgt. Robert Masucci. SCF Venice Provost Darlene Johnson will lead a moment of silence followed by brief remarks. Steven Stinson, president of SCF Venice Veterans Exchange and SCF Venice Student Government Association, will conclude the service with words of reflection.
