SCF to Host 37th Annual Suncoast Regional Math Conference(Bradenton, Fla., November 14, 2012)— State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota's (SCF) mathematics department will host the 37th Annual Suncoast Regional Mathematics Association of America (MAA) Conference from 2 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7, at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. West. Check-in begins at 2 p.m.in the mathematics building 27, entrance to parking lot C off 57th Avenue. The conference starts at 3 p.m., and mathematics sessions will be held throughout the day.
The plenary talk will be given by Dr. Donal O'Shea, president of New College of Florida.
O'Shea earned his undergraduate degree in mathematics from Harvard University and his master's degree and doctorate from Queens College, Ontario.
Before coming to New College, O'Shea was the dean of faculty and vice president for academic affairs at Mount Holyoke CollegeinSouth Hadley, Mass., a top-ranked privateliberal arts women's college.
He was a visiting professor at major universities in the United States and abroad. He has seven books and monographs to his credit, numerous research articles, and book translations from Russian and French. Click here for his full bio.
