SCF Athletics Announces 2012-2013 Hall of Fame Class

State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) athletics department will induct four new members into the SCF Hall of Fame at a ceremony held from 7 9 p.m., Friday, Jan.18, in the Korcheck building at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. West.

The Hall of Fame Class of 2013 includes former softball player and current SCF Manatees Softball Coach and Athletics Project Specialist Meredith Headings; former baseball player and current SCF Baseball Assistant Coach David Moates; and former baseball players Glenn Davis and Robin Flake.

Headings played for the SCF Softball team in 2000 and 2001.  She hit .414 with 10 home runs as a freshman and .426 with 13 homers in 2001.  Headings holds the career home run record (23) at SCF and is credited with hitting the first home run out of SCF’s softball field.  She was twice named to All-Conference and All-State teams and was Suncoast Player of the Year in 2001.  Headings finished her softball career at the University of South Carolina-Aiken.  Headings is serving her sixth year as the head coach of the SCF Manatees Softball team

Moates played for legendary Hall of Fame Coach Robert C. Wynn in 1968 and 1969.  The outfielder held the single season stolen base record for 25 years.  In 1968, he played in the JUCO World Series and earned honors on the All-Tournament team.  He also earned All-State honors and NJCAA All-American honors in 1968.  Moates went on to play at FSU and was drafted by the Washington Senators in the fourth round of the MLB draft.  He served as SCF assistant baseball coach for the 1993-94 season and 1997-98 seasons and he rejoined the staff last year. 

Davis played for the SCF Baseball teamin 1981 under Coach Wynn during his final year of coaching.  Davis led the team to the Suncoast Conference championship and was named to the NationalJuniorCollege Athletic AssociationAll-American (NJCAA) teamin the same season.  The Houston Astros drafted the outfielder after completion of competition at SCF.  He continued his Major League Baseball (MLB) career with the Baltimore Orioles and the Houston Astros.

Flake also played for Coach Wynn in 1968 and 1969, helping the baseball team win Suncoast Conference championships and state championships.  The pitcher earned All-American honors in 1969.  Upon completion of his career at SCF, Flake continued on to Florida State University (FSU).
