SCF’s DiTaranto Receives AFC President’s Award for Community Service

(Bradenton, Fla., December 12, 2012) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Adjunct Coordinator Mary DiTaranto was the first honoree of the new Association of Florida Colleges (AFC) President's Award for Community Service. The award, which was presented at the president's gala at the 63rd Annual AFC Convention this fall,  recognized her longstanding contributions to helping others in need.

As the winner of the award, DiTaranto received a $500 check to donate to a nonprofit organization. She presented the check to Reins of Change Equine Therapy Inc. in North Port that provides therapy to disabled children and horses.

DiTaranto was the first chair of the AFC Service Project Committee starting in 2010 until early 2012. In 2010, she led AFC's Haitian relief effort, raising funds and collecting donations at the statewideconvention as well as regional and membership conferences held throughout the year.  She also was the recipient of the Leadership Service Award in 2011.

As SCF's AFC chapter president, DiTaranto organized SCF's donations to the 2012 AFC Service Project, which benefited Ready for Life Pinellas, an organization that assists youth who are aging out of the Florida foster care system.

DiTaranto came to SCF 16 years ago and has served in various positions until she was promoted to her current position as adjunct coordinator.
