SCF President Probstfeld Partners with USFSM
(Bradenton, Fla., January 25, 2013) — In what could be viewed as a stroke of fortuitous scheduling, Dr. Carol Probstfeld’s first official day as president of State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) included a pre-arranged meeting with Regional Chancellor Dr. Arthur Guilford at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee (USFSM) at which the leaders enthusiastically reaffirmed the long partnership between SCF and USFSM.
Probstfeld received a warm welcome and congratulations from Guilford and Regional Vice Chancellor Dr. Bonnie Jones. The higher education leaders discussed shared values between the two institutions and ways to further expand innovative educational opportunities for the region.
The SCF District Board of Trustees named Probstfeld the sixth president of SCF on Jan. 22, 2013. Since November 2012 she had served as interim president of SCF while continuing in the role of vice president of business and administrative services, a position she has held since she came to SCF in 2003.
“This is a pivotal moment in my life and in the future of State College of Florida,” said Probstfeld after her meeting at USFSM. “We are poised to move forward with optimism and we have a great partner in USF Sarasota-Manatee.”
“I firmly believe we are standing at the threshold of a new beginning. We are committed to the development of strategic collaborations between SCF and USFSM that will have far-reaching benefits for our students and the vitality of our community.”
Probstfeld later identified reinstating SCF and USFSM joint faculty meetings as one idea that emerged from her meeting with Guilford.
Guilford added, “The key to our success is to leverage diverse and complimentary academic resources to develop a workforce that supports the needs of local communities and creates a national and global influence on education, business, and the arts. We congratulate Dr. Probstfeld and look forward to a renewed and invigorated relationship.”
