SCF Model UN Team Excels at Conference
(Bradenton, Fla., April 23, 2013) - State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota’s (SCF) Model United Nations team received Best Position Paper in the 2013 Southern Regional Model United Nations Spring Conference held in Charlotte, N.C., from April 11-13.
SCF’s team was among the seven out of 70 delegations to be recognized for their position papers, which stated their assigned country's positions on specific issues including gender equality, the future of Millennium Development Goals, disaster risk reduction, the rights of indigenous peoples, global migration and food production, international development programs and domestic environmental markets.
At the conference, SCF students represented South Korea in a multiday simulation of the United Nations, participating as delegates at the conference by drafting and sponsoring resolutions before their respective committees.
SCF students who participated were Alessandra DeVivo, Emily Moore, Jared Padgett and Erin Smith. Danny Fuerstman, SCF social and behavioral sciences instructor, is the delegation’s adviser.
SCF’s team participated with 300 students on teams from 30 community and state colleges and universities.
Students will be participating in the Southern Regional Model United Nations Conference in Atlanta in Fall 2013.
