SCF Partners with USFSM on Artist-to-Teacher Program
(Bradenton, Fla., May 17, 2013) – State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) President Dr. Carol F. Probstfeld and Dr. Arthur Guilford, regional chancellor, USF Sarasota-Manatee (USFSM), signed a memorandum of understanding for the new Artist-to-Teacher Program at a reception held at USFSM onMonday, May 13.
"SCF is proud to partner with USF Sarasota-Manatee to prepare future teachers and enhance arts education in the area by leveraging resources in the community," Probstfeld said.
The program provides an opportunity for SCF students who complete an Associate in Arts degree with an emphasis in fine arts to seamlessly transition to the USFSM College of Educationand pursue a bachelor's degree in elementary education to become a certified public school teacher in Manatee and Sarasota counties.
Also participating in the signing were Gary Russell, SCF vice president of academic affairs, and Dr. Bonnie Jones, USFSM regional vice chancellor for academic and student services.
"The Artist-to-Teacher Program was developed through the creativity of SCF faculty members working in collaboration with USF faculty members with a shared commitment to expand arts in the education curriculum," Russell said.
Russell recognized the following SCF faculty members for their contributions to the program: Drew Webster, professor and department chair, art design, humanities; Ken Erickson, SCF Theatre Program director; Melodie Dickerson, SCF Music Program director; and Dean Anthony, assistant professor, theatre.
