SCF Teams and Student-Athletes Score Academic Honors
(Bradenton, Fla., June 20, 2013) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) athletic teams and student-athletes were recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) for their academic achievements in 2012-2013.
SCF Manatees women's volleyball, women's softball and men's baseball teams were named 2012-2013 NJCAA All-Academic Teams. SCF teams exceeded the minimum team grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 required for the honor: volleyball, 3.32 GPA; softball, 3.30 GPA; and baseball, 3.10 GPA.
Six student-athletes were named NJCAA Athletes of Distinction and honored with awards based on their GPAs. Superior Academic Achievement awards were given to Danielle Williams, volleyball, 3.86 GPA, and Bryan Voelkl, baseball, 3.8 GPA.SCF athletes who won Exemplary Academic Achievement awards were: Chelsea Wildey, softball, 3.76 GPA; Abigail Martinez, tennis, 3.73 GPA; Jeff Dally, baseball, 3.64 GPA; Jarred Smith, baseball, 3.64 GPA.
NJCAA is the second largest national intercollegiate athletic organization in the United States with more than 500 member schools in 43 states. Each year more than 60,000 student-athletes compete in one of 28 different sports and the organization sponsors 48 national championship events.
