SCF Cohosts Florida Association of College Security and Safety Administrators Conference
(Bradenton, Fla., July 24, 2013) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Department of Public Safety cohosted the Florida Association of College Security and Safety Administrators (FACSSA) Conference July 24-26 at the Helmsley Sandcastle Hotel on Lido Beach.
The summer training conference was held in partnership with St. Petersburg College and Ringling College Art and Design. More than 50 college and university security officers and student services employees attended the conference.
SCF Department of Public Safety Chief Paul Porter has been an officer for the FACSSA for several years and helped organize the event.
The conference covered programs on threat assessment, behavioral intervention, emergency preparedness and crime prevention programs and strategies. Presenters were Dr. Jen Day Shaw, associate vice president and dean of students, University of Florida; Dr. Brian J. Mistler, director of health services, Ringling College of Art and Design; Ed Book, police chief, Santa Fe College; and Lee Struble, associate director of safety and security, St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York, and International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators crime prevention trainer.
