SCF to Offer Beginner English for College Classes
(Bradenton, Fla., July 31, 2013) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Corporate and Community Development
will offer an English for College class at SCF Venice and SCF Bradenton. The course
will be held 9:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m., Mondays-Thursdays, Sept. 9 - Dec. 5, at SCF Bradenton,
5840 26th St. West, building 18, and SCF Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail, building 800.
The purpose of the 12-week intensive, noncredit course is to teach beginning-level students English communication skills in preparation for college credit courses. In the English for College Program, students also will learn about SCF degrees and certificates and will meet with advisers to plan their studies at SCF.
After completing the course, students may advance to the English for Academic Purposes Program that prepares intermediate and advanced English learners to acquire the skills needed to successfully complete a degree at SCF and transfer to a university. Students are required to have a high school diploma from any country. Partial scholarships are available through The SCF Foundation Inc. for students who plan to continue to college credit courses. The fee for the course is $250.
Students are required to take an assessment to determine their English proficiency level. The free assessment will be offered 9 a.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 13 – Sept. 5, at SCF Venice, building 800, room 834, and 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, at SCF Bradenton, building 18, room 139.
