SCF to Offer Local Anesthesia Dental Hygiene Continuing Ed Course
(Bradenton, Fla., August 2, 2013) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Dental Hygiene Program, in partnership with SCF's Corporate and Community Development, will offer a local anesthetic course to fulfill a new state requirement that allows registered dental hygienists to administer local anesthesia under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist.
"Local Anesthesia: A Course for Dental Hygienists" will be held from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursday – Sunday, October 10-13. The course includes:
- Oct. 10-11, didactic instruction at SCF Lakewood Ranch, 7131 Professional Pkwy. E., Sarasota, Center for Innovation & Technology, auditorium, room 125
- October 12-13, clinical instruction at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. West, Bradenton, Dental Hygiene Clinic, building 2, parking lot F.
Demetra Logothetis, professor and director of University of New Mexico Division of Dental Hygiene and author of "Local Anesthesia for the Dental Hygienist," will lead the course.
Students must present current documentation including a Florida dental hygiene license, CPR certification and professional liability insurance coverage.
The course fee of $1,495 includes breakfast and lunch each day. The deadline for students to register and complete pre-course preparation is Friday, Oct. 4.
