Noncredit String Ensemble Performance Course at SCF Venice
(Bradenton, Fla., Aug. 30, 2013) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Corporate and Community Development, in partnership with the Venice Community Orchestra, will offer a noncredit course in string ensemble performance 10 a.m. – noon, on Saturdays, Sept. 21 – Dec. 14, at SCF Venice, S. Tamiami Trail.
Taught by SCF Adjunct Music Instructor Todd Craven, the 13-week course will be open to violin, viola, cello and bass players of all levels who can read sheet music. Classical and traditional music for the course will be selected from the SCF music library based on the skill level of the students. No auditions are required.
Craven, formerly a principal musician with the Sarasota Orchestra, has studied conducting in the United States and abroad and has conducted numerous ensembles and choruses in the Sarasota area. Craven also led the Venice Community Orchestra in last season's finale concert.
Joining participants in the class is the Venice Community Orchestra that includes members with all skill levels who have performed at area churches, assisted living facilities and country clubs.
Each course will conclude with a concert held at SCF Venice. Participants also will be invited to join the Venice Community Orchestra in local performances.
