SCF Symphonic Band Presents “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death!”
(Bradenton, Fla., November 4, 2013) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Symphonic Band will pay tribute to one of the country's most famous phrases, "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death," in a concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, in Neel Performing Arts Center at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W.
Highlighted by Richard Strauss' "Death and Transfiguration" and Aaron Copland's "Lincoln Portrait,"the concert will include John Philip Sousa's "The Liberty Bell" and Ronald Lo Presti's "Elegy of a Young American," written after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The band also will present "The Chimes of Liberty"by Edwin Franko Goldman and "Come, Sweet Death" by Johann Sebastian Bach.
The Symphonic Band is directed by Robyn Bell, SCF director of instrumental studies.
