SCF Board Report: February 18, 2014

(Bradenton, Fla., February 18, 2014) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) District Board of Trustees held its regular monthly meeting Feb. 18 at SCF Lakewood Ranch.

The board gave approval for SCF to submit a letter of intent to the Florida State Board of Education to offer a new Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) degree that will incorporate three existing baccalaureate programs – Energy Technology Management, International Business and Trade, and Technology Management – as areas of concentration under the new B.A.S. in Supervision and Management program title. Pending anticipated approval by the state, the new program title is expected to be effective in the Fall term 2015.

SCF Board Chair Dr. Craig Trigueiro said, “Combining these bachelor’s programs under the supervision and management umbrella makes sense. It’s a better utilization of staff and resources and allows the programs to continue to grow.”

In other official board action, the board approved the monthly financial report, SCFCS financial statement and other consent agenda items including continuing contract status for seven faculty members who had been recommended through the College’s rigorous process.

Trigueiro thanked Trustee Rick Hager for representing the SCF District Board of Trustees at the Association of Florida Colleges Trustees Conference held recently in Tallahassee.

The next meeting of the SCF District Board of Trustees is scheduled for March 18 at 6 p.m. at SCF Venice.
