SCF to Offer Information Session on Encore Initiative for Baby Boomers
(Bradenton, Fla., February 26, 2014) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will host an information session about a program to help baby boomers earn a college degree or re-enter the workforce in another field 9-11 a.m. Friday, March 14, at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W., building 18, room 110.
SCF's Manatee-Sarasota Encore Initiative assists adults age 50 and older in completing degrees or certificates in high-demand occupations, including education and health professions such as dental hygiene, nursing and radiography.
SCF launched the initiative as part of the American Association of Community Colleges Plus 50 Encore Completion Program, a national effort to train 10,000 baby boomers for new jobs in health care, education and social services while helping them complete certificates or degrees.
SCF will reintroduce mature learners to the educational environment by helping them choose a new career, learn study strategies and update their technology skills to prepare for college life and begin training in SCF's existing workforce programs.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the percentage of adults older than 55 in the workforce will grow to 25 percent in 2020, up from 13 percent in 2000.
