SCF Studio 84 Productions Presents “The Grove”
(Bradenton, Fla., April 3, 2014) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Studio 84 Productions will present “The Grove” at 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday, April 11-12, and Thursday-Saturday, April 17-19, in the David S. & Anne V. Howard Studio Theatre at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W., building 11 West. A matinee performance is scheduled at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 13.
“The Grove” is a modern adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s light-hearted drama, “The Cherry Orchard,” which was set in Moscow in the early 20th century.
Written by SCF Theater Program Director Ken Erickson Jr., “The Grove” is set in the late 1980s in Lakeland, Fla., where a widow returns to her family estate to learn it has been mortgaged to pay for her extravagant lifestyle. She must decide if she will listen to reason and attempt to save the estate and the orange grove before they are auctioned off.
The cast includes SCF students Alexandra Cowan, Dylan Buckley, Jaelynn Clark, Adam Condor, Jordan Dixon, Mary Ellis, Summer Begalka, John Dorsey and Kimberly Kalley, and SCF alumni Jeff Beghtel and Gilbert Ortiz. The production is directed by Erickson.
General admission is $12. Tickets are $10 for students and SCF employees.
