(Bradenton, Fla., July 24, 2014) — Entry- and mid-level manufacturing workers have the opportunity to upgrade their knowledge and skills through the nationally recognized Manufacturing Skill Standards Council's (MSSC) Certified Production Technician (CPT) certification course offered by State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Corporate and Community Development.

Designed to accommodate employed workers' busy schedules, the 80-hour course is offered online 6-10 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, Aug. 4 - Oct. 8. The online format allows participants to conveniently access recorded sessions if they are unable to attend the live sessions. Participants must have basic computer skills and access to a high-speed Internet connection. A headset and microphone also are required.

The course covers the basics of advanced manufacturing, including safety, production and processes, maintenance and quality.

Participants who complete training and pass required examinations receive the certificate, which can be used to obtain 15 credit hours toward an Associate in Science in Engineering Technology degree at SCF and other Florida state and community colleges that offer the degree.

The cost for the course is $895. Participants also may qualify for a training grant reimbursable for up to 50 percent of the cost.
