Military Officers Association of Sarasota Supports SCF Student-Veterans

(Bradenton, Fla., September 12, 2014) — The Military Officers Association of Sarasota (MOAS) has given $1,000 to the Veterans Scholarship Fund at the State College of Florida Foundation (SCFF) Inc. to support student-veterans.

“We thank MOAS for its gift that will change SCF student-veterans’ lives,” said Cassandra Holmes, executive director of the SCF Foundation. “This gift was matched dollar-for-dollar by the SCFF Board of Directors’ (BOD) matching veteran student program, making the total gift $2,000. The SCFF BOD will match veteran program contributions up to $25,000 as part of the top fundraising priority of the college.”

The MOAS contribution combined with other donations raises the total amount of the Veterans Scholarship Fund to $19,000. SCF Foundation scholarship funds are endowed at $25,000.

“This gift is part of our efforts to expand our mission to assist returning veterans," said Claire Power, director and chairman of scholarship committee for MOAS.

MOAS Board President Troy C. Scott said, “The Military Officers Association of Sarasota is very pleased to contribute to the SCF Foundation and the veterans attending SCF. A part of our mission is to assist our younger veterans who have served their country and are striving to attain a better life for themselves and their families.  A college education will offer them a brighter future and help make them leaders in our community.”

More than 350 veterans from all branches of the military are enrolled at SCF.
