SCF Board Report: October 28, 2014

(Bradenton, Fla., October 28, 2014) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) District Board of Trustees held its regular monthly meeting Oct. 28 at SCF Lakewood Ranch.

SCF President Dr. Carol F. Probstfeld thanked Board Chair Ed Bailey and Trustee Rick Hager for meeting with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) team during its site visit at SCF Oct. 20-23.

“The visiting team was complimentary of your enthusiasm in representing the college as board members,” she said. “We are very pleased with where SCF is in the process of reaffirmation of accreditation of the college.”

The final reaffirmation decision by SACSCOC is due June 2015.

Probstfeld also presented to the board a proposal of the SCF Foundation’s capital campaign, which included new workforce development programs as a top fundraising priority. The capital campaign will be further considered by the SCF Foundation Board of Directors on Nov. 13.

The board approved:

  • financial and non-financial consent agenda items;
  • a Quick Response Training Grant proposal made by Bright House Networks to CareerSource Florida that will assist with training 144 new Bright House employees. SCF will serve as fiscal agent; and
  • a revised college rule.

The board also heard from:

  • Cassandra Holmes, executive director of the SCF Foundation, who presented the foundation’s quarterly report.
  • Dr. Mike Mears, vice president of strategic initiatives, who gave an update on baccalaureate programs.

The next board meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at SCF Bradenton.
